Dust jacket with pictorial front panel color faded to predominately gray and black (with original colors being blue and black), soiling and toning to both panels but most evident upon white rear blank panel which also has light moisture staining along spine edge, impression from past bookseller's removed price sticker at top left of front panel, chipping along edges and flap folds as well as along spine with deepest loss being 3cm chip at spine heel; dj now presented in a mylar Brodart protector. Dark blue cloth spine with bold white lettering, light toning to blue boards, slender stripe of paper from dj's blank verso adhered along spine's rear joint. Endpapers well toned; small dark stain adjacent to front free endpaper fore-edge with handwritten ink date "Sept. 1960" at top left corner but in a different hand than that of the author whose four-line ink inscription is at the page center: "Mrs. Frank Simmons | greetings from | the author - | May Randlette Beck." Laid-in at front endpapers is a newspaper clipping from May 1968 announcing the author's death; toning to pages 68-69 caused by laid-in February 1969 Mobile newspaper clipping regarding the 100th anniversary of a disastrous fire at the city's Spring Hill College. Includes b/w drawings by William B. Bush and other illustrations. A very good- copy in only a poor dust jacket of a quite uncommon Mobile, Alabama local history title. Bookseller Inventory #

The front board has a slightly bumped, top corner, small stains along the top edge, light water stain along the front end, a 1 3/8 in. x 1 in. area of intemittent, dark stains. The back board has paper peeled from 1/2 in. of the top corner and intermittently along half of the bottom edge. Nearly a tenth of the pages have a wavy area midway on the margins by the spine.
