Book Description Wetzel Printing & Publishing, Los Angeles, CA, 1932. Hard Cover. Book Condition: Very Good. No Jacket. Vanna Peters (Illustrator) (illustrator). 3rd Edition, 3rd Printing. 3rd Edition, 3rd Printing of Feb 16th, 1932. Text/Bright, clean As New. Illustrated boards/VG; Strong & sound w/loss to edge tips of upper/lower spine, & three inches of mid-spine. Weak hinge between pgs 32 - 33. Illustrated endpapers. Frontispiece: Pencil photo of author by Chas. Owens, L.A. Times. In 1932, time of this volume's publication year, Gin Chow was 74 years old. Born in the Canton region of China, Gin Chow arrived in San Francisco in 1983 at the age of 16, and took up permanent residence in Lompoc, California. Admired for his uncanny ability to predict weather, using, as Gin Chow says, traditional Chinese methods he learnt from his grandfather. Noted for presaging the 1923 Yokohama earthequake and that in Santa Barbara two years later, he became known as the Sage of Lompoc. Besides weather predictions, the book is also an autobiography/memoir, and his own political thoughts, rich with Chinese traditional beliefs and lore. The prose is written in "broken English" and in syntax/pronunciation reflect Gin's native tongue of Cantonese; for example, America is spelt "Amelica". The Chinese ideographs on the front cover read: "Peace on earth brings tranquil contentment to man; all men will share in the peaceful prosperity." Strong copy of social history.
