Description:

262 pages. H 27cm x L 20cm. Black pebbled cloth over stiff paper covers; embossed gilt and green lettering on front cover faded, mild rubbing to covers with small stain to rear, some wear lengthwise along spine. Dark green endpapers. B/w photographs. Illustrations. 18 page advertising section at rear. 1919 Commencement Exercise program laid-in. Five sections for academic classes, military, college athletics, student organizations, and features. William Spratling's sophomore yearbook features eight signed drawings on pages 8, 21, 75, 87, 211, 216, 239 (a probable self-portrait), and 240. Drawings for advertisements on pages 241 and 242 might be Spratling's as well for they are stylistically similar to a signed advertisement drawing on page 240. Spratling is listed/photographed among the Sophomore Class Roll on page 85 (with uncaptioned photo on page 84 in which Spratling is indistinguishable), among the Company G privates on page 118 (with uncaptioned photo on page 119 in which Spratling is indistinguishable), among the Architectural Society member list on page 201 (with uncaptioned photo but with Spratling appearing in the top row), among a group of photographs of Wirt Literary Society members on page 213, and among the Auburn Press Club on page 223. Unlike his freshman yearbook, Spratling is not acknowledged for his artistic contibutions on the Glomerata Board page. Nor is Spratling cited as a member of the Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity. Sarah A. Spratling (possibly William's cousin) is mentioned on pages 92 and 206 with a photograph on page 94. Early API/Auburn yearbooks are quite uncommon. A very good+ copy.
