Description:

(1952), xi, 211pp, illustrated. Extremities worn, else G in Fair, chipped and well worn dj. The true story of a sensational murder that took place in Lexington, Kentucky in 1941. The nationally known professional golfer, Marion Miley, and her mother were killed in the course of a bungled burglary at the country club where they lived. Tom Penney, Bob Anderson and Willie Baxter were found guilty of the crime. While in prison, Tom Penney converted to Catholicism, repented, and went to his death a totally changed man, according to the author. But he changed his story about who had been the actual shooter, leaving doubt in the mind of the warden at Eddyville Prison, where the executions were to take place. In an attempt to get to the truth, the warden engaged in some psychological game playing with Penney. The men were supposed to be executed in order of their guilt, but the warden changed the order of execution hoping to get at the truth from Penney who presumably would want to leave this world with a clear conscience. The son of the warden, William Buchanan, also wrote a book about this case entitled EXECUTION EVE. Bookseller Inventory #
