'Reflections on Earth and Heaven and the Effects of Universal Gravitation' (also known as 'Dreams about Earth and Sky') is one of Tsiolkovsky‚s earliest works. One of the most fascinating aspects of the author's work is his ability to predict possible problems and future inventions in detail. For instance, in this book he describes the possibility of creating artificial gravity on man-made space stations as well as artificial satellites as bases for rocket launches. Many of Tsiolkovsky‚s thoughts, visionary ideas and scientific work have had an important influence on the development of modern spaceflight. Among his epoch-making contributions are the concept of a liquid-fuel rocket, the theory of a rocket with changing mass including the so-called Tsiolkovskys formula, calculations for the earth -escape velocity and the energy needed to escape from Earth‚s gravity field and the idea of the multi-stage rocket. Today, Tsiolkovsky is honoured as the earliest of the recognized pioneers of spaceflight theory. Bookseller Inventory # 18508
