" Moïse Nordmann (1809-1884) was an Alsatian rabbi and author of poems and scientific papers. He was the son of well-off cattle dealer Emmanuel Nordmann and his wife Madelaine Didisheim. In 1828 he enrolled at the University of Heidelberg , living with Rabbi Salomon Prince… In 1848 Moïse Nordmann organized the resistance against anti-Jewish riots in Hégenheim. Nordmann was a moderate representative of liberal Judaism being against organs and decorative stained glass windows in the synagogue. He also advocated for the education of girls and was one of the founders of the Jewish asylum Hégenheim… His grave is in the Jewish cemetery there.
