About this Item

Considerable fading of the front cover's color, spine is quite darkened, minor wear and soil on the sound binding. Very minor soil on the gold top edge. The paper covering the front hinge is split for 4" at the top, but the hinge is sound. Very minor age-darkening of contents which are clean and unworn. No DJ. (LR-4-C) . ; 9-1/2" Tall, 147pp + a 30-page section of Pedigree charts. Sturdy green buckram with bright gold front cover lettering. This HARDCOVER book was published in 1901; it is not a recent reprint. REFERENCE. Frontispiece is a colorful representation of the Greene Coat-of-Arms and is protected by a tissue guard. "In the following account of the GREENE FAMILY the compilers have not attempted to give a complete Genealogy, but rather to enable the members of that branch with which we are more immediately connected to trace their line to the English ancestry through the first of the name who came to New England, and to show the descent from the emigrant directly to Nathaniel Greene, who died in Boston in 1714, amd more especially to the families of his two sons, Benjamin and Gardiner Greene of Boston, with only such occasional references to collateral branches as would aid those who may so desire to follow out the lines at their leisure. " This would appear to be a second or later printing per the statement on the last page : "An error of assignment of one of the plates was discovered after the volumes had been distributed. The picture facing page 39 should have been given as the Recory at Greene's Norton instead of Gillingham. " At least 16 pages of b/w illustrations - photos & reproductions. Index. (LR-4-C) .
