In original red cloth with black ruled front board and gilt lettered titles (spine title faded to black). Octavo, xi, 363, [6] pp.including 50 unnumbered b&w photographic plates. Scarce detailed account of the famous hurricane that devastated Galveston, Texas, on September 8,1900, leaving over 6,000 dead. *** Condition: Complete with all plates, though order does not follow the list of illustrations. Soiling to boards and cloth tears at spine ends.Text block detached from covers and held by old tape. Old newspaper clipping from 1950 pasted to front pastedown and envelope containing 2 postcards pasted to rear endpaper. First and last signatures loose with chipped edges. Text pages browned (cheap paper) and fragile; plates less affected. Some pen and pencil notations in scattered in text and a previous owner has written some research notes on a front endpaper.
