About this Item

First edition. 16mo. in maroon cloth with spine lettered in gilt and gilt decoration of a checkerboard on the front cover. 286 pps. with index, one leaf of publisher's ads. Move notations of many famed match games with commentary at the conclusion of each. J.A. Kear contributed a section on Remarkable Games and Mr. Charles Hefter of Chicago added a section on the American game. A tight, clean copy with modest sunning to the spine (but with the gilt still bright); shallow wear at the head of the spine and a touch at the tips.
