Book Description McClelland & Stewart, Toromto, 1965. Hardcover. Condition: Near Fine. Dust Jacket Condition: Good. 1st. (CAD) INSCRIBED BY AUTHOR: "With my compliments / Pierre Sevigny", no other markings, Near Fine in Good dustjacket with a couple of minor edge faults but a 1" triangular chip to the lower edge of rear panel. Blue boards, xi, 324pp, index. No illus. Sevigny was Associate Defence Minister in the Progressive Conservative government of John Diefenbaker in the early 1960s. He was a war hero and lost a leg durint the Battle of the Rhineland. Sevigny is probably remembered for his involvement in the Munsinger Affair during the height of the Cold War. The RCMP had warned the Justice Minister that Gerta Munsinger, an alleged East German prostitute and spy, was having a sexual relationship with a cabinet minister. This was eventually revealed to be Sévigny, when investigators realized that a mysterious thumping sound on their surveillance tapes was Sevigny's artificial limb dropping to the floor. The matter was dealt with behind closed doors and Sévigny resigned in 1963. This book has vivid thumbnail sketches of many of the politicians with whom Sevigny worked, and opinions on Maurice Duplessis and his influence on national events, but nothing on the Munsinger Affair.
