Each series bears six platinum photographs (2 x 4 inches; 12 platinum prints, complete) of scenes in Yosemite Valley California in a gray folder with the words "Gems of Yosemite" raised on the front panel. Rear panel contains the following information: Platinum Photograms of Yosemite Valley California, Contents Series N [or L; followed by a listing of the titles of the six photos] Published & Copyright 1900, A. Putnam, Official Photographer of the Southern Pacific Railroad, Los Angeles. A couple of very minor dings to the wrappers, photos fine, else near fine to fine with no internal markings.Born in New York City, Arion Putnam [1870-1940] settled in Los Angeles in 1888, where his father, John P. Putnam had a commercial photography firm, Putnam & Valentine. While Arion Putnam was working as a photographer, he made painting trips to the High Sierra and along the coast. An Impressionist, Putnam did plein air landscapes which are now quite rare. He was a member of the Los Angeles Camera Club and had 10 photos in their first exhibition.
