Title: With General Grant in the East
Publisher: J. B. Lippincott and Co.
Book Condition: Fair
Book Description J. B. Lippincott and Co., Philadelphia and London, 1880. Hardcover. Condition: Good. Dust Jacket Condition: No Dust Jacket. First Edition. An appealing little copy, withdrawn from a library, where it was last checked out in 1934. It is sturdily bound in black library buckram, with gold stamping. It was the practice of this library to emboss plates on the periphery with a lacy imprint of its name, no doubt to deter theft. The effect is not obtrusive, and other markings are minimal. The pages are age-toned, but not brittle. One pencil marking is noted in the text. In 19th century fashion, the date of copyright (1879) is given on the copyright page, and the date of issue (1880) is given on the title page. I'm confident this is a first edition.
