Here smartly rebound indexing the articles and works published in 'The Gentleman's Magazine' throughout the years 1731 and 1818. Complete in five volumes. A thorough index of the essays, names, books, poems, and plates that appeared in 'The Gentleman's Magazine' between the years 1731 and 1818. Volume I, 'Essays, 1731-1786'. Volume II, 'Names, Books, Poetry, Plates, 1731-1786'. Volume III, 'Essays, Poetry, 1787-1818'. Volume IV, 'Books, Names, 1787-1818'. Volume V, 'Plates, 1731-1818'. 'The Gentleman's Magazine' was a periodical founded in London in 1731, and was the first to use the term magazine for periodical. It was intended for the educated public. Some of its regular contributors include Samuel Johnson, Jonathan Swift, William Falconer, Richard Weston, William Markham, and Mary Barber. Volumes I and III each with a frontispiece. Compiled by Samuel Ayscough, a librarian and indexer who was renowned for his indexing talent. Rebound in a cloth binding. Externally, smart. Some light marks to the boards. Internally, firmly bound.
