About this Item

"After a general introduction on the 'Impact of genetics on society', the first day of the symposium was dedicated to presentations concerning the state of the art in the field of genetics. New developments in cytogenetics, classical genetics and in the field of genetics. New developments of cytogenetics, classical genetics and in the diagnosis by linkage at the DNA-level were reviewed. Recent studies by the Center for Human Genetics of the University of Leuven evaluating the impact of genetic counseling and prenatal diagnosis were presented dering the first session. During the second day of the symposium experts in the field of risk perception and decision making discussed their theoretical models and decision aiding technologies in general or applied to the field of genetic risk perception and to some aspects of genetic risk perception and decision making were also briefly presented during this meeting. The gap existing between the two fields and the possible use of 'decision support programs' in gentic counseling was critically and thoroughly discussed at the end of the symposium. The main points of this discussion are included here and an effort was made to reproduce the interventions of the different discussants as faithfully as possible. The conference provided an excellent platform for geneticists, psychologists and social scientists to explain their respective disciplines to each other. The possible contribution of research work on risk perception and decision making to the quality of the genetic counseling, aimed at helping people with genetic problems, was explored." This book has 333 pages and is illustrated. The text contains NO internal marks whatsoever. Overall, a FINE copy of this VERY SCARCE title. Bookseller Inventory # 059589
