Louisiana State University Press, LA. At the begining of the Civil War, he was perhaps the most experinced soldier on either side; already a veteran of the Mexican War, and revolutions/armies in Cuba, Mexico, and Italy. When the Civil War started Wheat led the “Louisiana Tigers” Battalion, a unit noted for its lack of disipline but knew how to fight. They fought at Bull Run, Jackson’s Valley Campaign and the Seven Days. He was idolized by his troops. However, he was killed at Gaines Mill in June 1862. Very good copy of the first edition in a good dust jacket. The dust jacket has a little edge wear and a little soiling on the spine. 232 pages. Bookseller Inventory # 20844
