About this Item

xviii + 197 pages + 7 rear (most pages not numbered). Full-Leather wrap-round binding in fair/ poor condition, rubbed, some staining, minor edge loss. Contents in fair condition, inscribed by original owner to front end page Elizabeth Huck, Ashstead, Surrey, 1835, crossed out, and corner tip loss, next blank page inscribed John Huck, account of business 1883. Most pages good, front & rear end pages poor as staining to spine area. Almanack front & rear is full of contemporary information on subjects as diverse as Acts of Parliament inc. Poor Law, weights and measurements uniformity act, also population, Winchester Cathedral, daily almanack information, astronomical notes, List of the names of the House of Peers & House of Commons (M.P.'s), names of the foreign ambassadors, population of various London areas in 1801 & 1831, information on the Post Office, list places of interest in London, List of the hundreds of Banks in the UK, fares of the watermen on the (river) Thames, Hackney rates (horse/cab/ taxi). & various other information. The remaining centre pages are for the diary and cash accounts, only just a few pages written on. The annotations are on only about 6 pages, they are nothing of historical interest, they are of and looks like a young John Huck (grandson? of original owner) in pencil, some very basic a/c notes and one looks like marks for spelling. So generally in fair/good condition, leather fold-over binding with slip-in strap for holding closed. A scarce almanac. The National Archives, Kew hold the 1851 Will of Elizabeth Huck, a Widow of Ashtead , Surrey. Size: 8 x 12cm Approx. Bookseller Inventory # 001920
