Book Description Charles Scribner's Sons, New York, NY, 1948. Hardcover. Book Condition: Very Good+. 1st Edition. Five Volume set. Original deep navy to near black cloth. All volumes are at least very good+ if not slightly better. ALL VOLUMES WITH THE REQUISITE SCRIBNER'S "A"/FIRST EDITIONS. Endpaper maps, heavily footnoted, illus., appendices, bibliography, index, 2919p. All volumes in the original slipboxes which are worn and some taped, condition varies from near very good to fair. VOLUME ONE SIGNED BY FREEMAN. (Dr. Freeman, almost exclusively and to our knowledge, seldom signed any of his multi-volume history in any volume but the first in the series. Likewise, Freeman on many an occasion has his secretary sign for him. The signature in the first volume of this set is definitely his distinctive signature.) Finally published in seven volumes (the seventh volume being ghost written---using Freeman's own notes---this biography of the great American is still the definitive story of his life. Volume Seven is very difficult to locate. Volume six is usually available. Signed by Author(s). Bookseller Inventory # 003803
