Putnam's Sons , 1923 . Prefatory Note to each volume by Eddie Marsh . GEORGIAN POETRY was Marsh's personal project and he was in fact the very strong Editor of the books . Marsh had been a major personality in English literary circles for some years prior to the origin of GEORGIAN POETRY . Of course , he was also Winston Churchill 's very able and trusted Private Secretary at the Home Office and at the Admiralty . In these five volumes of GEORGIAN POETRY Marsh published his favorite authors of the day . Some of them have their first published work here . With the hindsight of three-quarters of a century , it is very difficult to argue with his selections , athough he believed that many of them were not appreciated by his contemporaries . Of couse , his friend , Rupert Brooke is prominent in these volumes . You will also find Walter De La Mare , D. H. Lawrence , John Masefield , Siegfried Sassoon , Robert Graves , Herbert Asquith , Edmund Blunden , and Vita Sackville - West here . These volumes are a goldmine of the early work of these and many other young authors of the time . These are the writers who gave such an extraordinary interpretation to World War I and some of them , including Brooke , lost their lives in that war . It certainly can be argued that most of these writers would have "made it" without Marsh but he deserves a great deal of credit for his sponsorship nonetheless . This is an excellent set of these volumes . All vols. are hardcover . The first four volumes are in the original paper covered boards . The fifth volume is rebound in three quarter leather and marble paper covered boards . All hinges are tight . The gold gilt on the top page edges of each volume is bright . The graphics on the spines of each volume are bright . The interiors of each volume are clean except for a pencil reference to the bookbinder on the front endpaper of volume five .
