Original third red and stamped gilt foliate cloth (spine and adjoining margins) and ivory paste-down paper covered pictorial boards (chromolithograph of two girls and a boy holding flowers) , 6 3/4 x 8 3/4 inches, nonpaginated, illustrated with chromolithograph frontispiece (boy, girl and dog on a rock at the ocean) , numerous black and white drawings and a few photographs. Hardcover, good. Corners bumped with cardboard exposed there and at spots along edges of boards, some soil, spine faded and rubbed, gilt dulled, 3/4 inch scrape on front board (illustration unaffected) , approximately 1x2 inch piece of the paste-down torn off rear board, 3/4 inch scrape there. Internally, hinges starting to crack between a few of the gatherings, contemporary previous owner's gift inscription, some foxing and tanning on first and last few leaves, a few stray smudges, jagged 1 inch tear on one leaf, lightly age yellowed, otherwise tight, clean, relatively crisp and unmarked. Late Victorian catch-all, including short stories, poems, true stories, (including one about Frank Frye the Swimming Boy) , huntng raccoons, old Scotland, how to make a doll house and some furniture for it, dressing a baby doll, etc. Children's; antiques.
