All were printed in numerous editions. Vossius was a Dutch classical scholar, philologist and wrote about historical theology. He was very close with Hugo Grotius and taught at the University of Leiden. In 1619 he was accused of heresy and forced to resign from his post as Director of the Theological College at Leiden University. His work in rhetoric was influential in the Low Countries, Scotland, Germany and Sweden, and continued long after his death.
