Synopsis: "THE" How-To book for the person interested in seeking public office at the Local, City, County, or State level. Written by a person who was elected to the City Council twice, Elected Mayor four times, and has been elected twice to serve in the State Legislature. This is NOT a book about political philosophy. It is, pure and simple, a book about the nuts and bolts of how to go about running for office and getting elected.
From the Author: I wrote this book because I'm on a mission to get more people involved in the political process, just as I did. Instead of just complaining, you have to get involved. But, I've found that most people don't have the foggiest idea how to get started getting involved or what steps are necessary in running for office. Up-To-Date books by individuals who have actually been elected and can speak from experience are very rare. Most people believe that government at all levels could be improved. We all know that! But instead of standing around griping and singing the blues, more people need to get involved. You can yell and scream all you want, but if you want to change the laws by which we live, change public policy, you have to get elected and be in a position to vote for the changes you desire.
You have to get involved! I became involved by becoming an activist on school issues in our school district. I had an interest, I cared. I hope my book inspires others to look seriously at running for one of the 500,000 public offices that are voted on in these United States. They truly offer you the opportunity to make a difference. In that regard, you will find the foreword written by my friend Senator Nancy Kassebaum Baker to be of unusual interest. This book is full of very valuable information for potential candidates, present office holders, even political junkies. This is NOT a book about political philosophy. It is, pure and simple, a book about the nuts and bolts of how you go about running for office and getting elected, written by a person who has done it successfully numerous times. It is truly the kind of book I wish I had had the first time I ran for public office.
