There are those who see in the verses of Hafiz the quintessence of mysticism." - of the verses of the Persian lyric poet, known by his pen name Ha-fez (C. 1325/26-1389/90); tipped-in at front endpaper is a small envelope containing a couple of news cuttings regarding McCarthy and the book; also tipped-in at front are a couple of additional bookseller catalog entries for the title and at the half-title page is a longer newspaper column-size obituary of the father, also Justin McCarthy, "Irish Historian and Novelist won Distinction as a Political Leader"; nicely printed at set-out at the Chiswick Press Charles Whittingham & Co.; one of a thousand copies, 800 for England, 200 for America; bound in the original yapp-edged blue-green paper-covered boards, titled in Arabic script on the front cover, spine in English; some edge, tips wear to boards, yapp edges chipped, spine paper covering half gone (leaving the top, and all titling); contents in good condition.
