About this title

Ghosts of the Field: America's Most Hallowed Ground Yesterday and Today is the first book from award-winning, Washington, D.C. photographer, Mike Lynaugh. In this book Mike takes the "Yesterday and Today" genre to the next level. He has meticulously researched original battlefield photography of the Civil War and set out to duplicate the photographs from the exact same locations that Matthew Brady's photographers stood approximately 140 years ago. By using original Civil War photographs, maps, and written descriptions, Mr. Lynaugh has gone out to some of the most hallowed ground on America's soil and sought to bring the reality of war to today's viewer. When one looks at the photography in Ghosts of the Field: America's Most Hallowed Ground Yesterday and Today he is transported back to a time when the peaceful surroundings at today's National Parks was not so peaceful. You can clearly see exactly where soldiers and generals once stood, and where they fell, with his beautiful modern day photography of these historical locations. This is an absolute must-have for anyone who loves to travel to the many battlefields of Virginia, Maryland, Pennsylvania or the nation's capital, Washington, D.C. This truly is a completely new way to view America's Civil War. Mr. Lynaugh is a press photographer in Washington, D.C. and is a member of both the United States Senate Press Photographer's Gallery and the White House News Photographer's Association.
