About this Item

4to. Black cloth with gilt lettering and decoration, pictorial dust jacket. 64pp. Numerous color illustrations. Near fine/very good. Faint jacket edgewear. Probable sole edition of the first book by this eccentric American marine artist/author/journalist/adventurer (1936-2015), a humorous cartoon-like chronicle of the history of warfaring from prehistoric man to modern man. Gilkerson's artistic style predates but is extroardinarily similar to that of illustrator/author David Macaulay (of "Castle," "Pyramid," Building Big," etc. fame).
