Philadelphia: Published by the author, 1888. 6 3/4 x 4 1/2". vii, 183pp. Frontispiece portrait of Girard (with tissue guard). Original cloth, light wear at corners and head and foot of backstrip. Water stain on top and outside edges of textblock. Good, sound copy. Collated and complete. Westbrook protests the teaching of religion at Girard College which Girard had intended to be non-sectarian. The appendix includes parts of Girard's contested will and the Supreme Court opinion (1844). A newspaper clipping, "Stephen Girard's will. No decision by the Supreme Court of the United States declaring it invalid," 3 March 1898, laid down on front paste-down. Bookseller Inventory # 002186
