It's a unique, innovative, daring novel filled with interesting and memorable characters. Discover this exciting and shocking novel and two brand new authors you'll be hearing a lot more about in the near future.

On Creating the Glass Cocoon

One might describe the evolution of The Class Cocoon as a planned accident. Serena Holder and Chris Jarmick, co-authors of this soon-to-be-released steamy suspense mystery thriller, first met in an Internet chatroom for writers of adult-oriented fiction. On a whim several days later, Serena e-mailed Chris and asked if he would consider collaborating on a book about the Internet chat room experience. He accepted without hesitation. At first it was to be a non-fiction book

After several notes, and a couple of sample chapters, they decided that the book should be a combination mystery/psychological thriller/love story that would explore the dark underbelly of the on-line chat world. It would also incorporate the "small world" phenomenon in which people reveal themselves to be connected by the simplest of things. Interestingly, both Chris and Serena found that they shared many unique experiences in their own lives.

It was an interesting writing process, to say the least. Consider this, if you will: Chris and Serena are two complete strangers, living thousands of miles apart. They are of different genders and almost a generation removed in their thinking and life experiences. They are of different social, professional and religious backgrounds. What they discovered, however,is that these differences had remarkable little bearing on how they both viewed life and love.

Since they took turns writing chapters, neither could do anything until they received the latest chapter from the other. They had absolutely no idea what turns the plot might have taken, or who was involved now or why, or whether any new characters might have been be "born" while they were asleep! When something totally unexpected cropped up - which it frequently did - they would look at it as you would a stumbling block in life, and they would simply deal with it and move forward.

Most surprising perhaps is that they started (and ended) the project with no outline whatsoever. In fact, they had no idea how the plot was to unfold. They didn't even know how it would end, until it did!

Nearly three years has come and gone since Serena and Chris embarked on this project, and they have still never met face to face! They actually worked for quite a while on the manuscript before they even spoke on the telephone. Several noted authors have been quoted as saying that collaborating with another writer had been a nightmarish ordeal that they would never try again.

Maybe they should have worked with Chris and Serena, for they found the experience of writing The Glass Cocoon to be an immensely rewarding and life-changing adventure!

Chris and Serena have already started on their next novel. And who knows? They might even meet this time!
