Title: Gleanings by Gaslight.
Publisher: The Fanlight House, N.p.
Publication Date: 1947
Signed: Signed by Author(s)
Edition: 1st Edition
Edited by Jay Finley Christ. Small 8vo. Stiff yellow wrappers. 15pp. Very good. Outer wrappers (only) slightly age toned. A tight and handsome first edition, limited to 250 numbered copies (this #85). This is the second group of quirky little essays first published in "The Chicago Daily News" column "A Line o' Type or Two" to be published separately (the first being "Flashes by Fanlight," 1946). The half-title page bears a printed "handwritten" line "with thanks from / JF Christ" -- and on this page has added a huge, flamboyant "For James F Spoerri" and the date ("9/23/48") in bold blue ink. From the library of noted James Joyce scholar JAMES FULLER SPOERRI (1899-1964). An uncommonly nice copy inscribed by the noted Holmes scholar and writer to another noted Sherlockian.
