Synopsis: Abdoulaye Niang's Globalization: The Key to Peace and Prosperity in Africa is an honest, informed, and comprehensive look at how to make economic change improve the lives of all world citizens. More than a utopian fantasy, the book candidly examines the realities of making globalization happen in Africa and offers real solutions that will allow Africa to break free of foreign aid dependence and pull itself up by its own fiscal and economic bootstraps.

Niang begins with a vision of Africa as a union of nations networked into a continental economy and market and goes on to outline a detailed plan that will give Africa s citizens a fairer share of the wealth generated from an abundant natural resource base. With a focus on development that can be sustained for generations, Niang proposes solutions that will offer economic prosperity with reduced poverty, pollution, and violence making the world more peaceful for Africans, and more prosperous for everyone.

About the Author: Abdoulaye Niang was appointed on March 1, 2007 as the Director of the Sub-regional Office of the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (ECA) in West Africa, covering the fifteen countries of the Economic Community for West African States. He is the author of the 2006 book, Toward a Viable and Credible Development in Africa: The Push Factors, and a number of articles and radio and television interviews on development issues, and he sees this appointment as a window of opportunity to reposition West Africa as the launching pad for harnessing regional resources in order to meet Africa s development priorities.

With a deeply held conviction that Africa is an economic powerhouse and that each African nation can and should develop from Africa s economic and fiscal capabilities, he knows that Africa can transform itself from a home of issues to a home of self-endeavor in a very short amount of time. Niang has devoted his life to making regionalization and globalization work for all. Through the Tambaroua Foundation, and as of January 2009, he will continue to promote new ideas in order to continuously make globalization and regionalization offer growth with prosperity and peace to African citizens.
