About this Item
Edward Fenton, who died in December 1995, wrote poetry, short stories and thrillers for adults, but was at his best writing for children (or Young Adults). Although many of his books are set in Greece, where he lived for many years, this one is set in Florence where a couple of American siblings are let loose while their actor parents are making a movie. They meet an Italian lad who shows them the city and gets them mixed up in a mystery about stolen artwork. Kirkus said it was an "excellent story along with bubbling dialog, credible characters, and an appreciation of learning on the spot". Good illustrations. This copy must be an early reprint: no "first edition" statement, but no mention of Fenton's next book, "The Nine Questions" (1959). There's a name on the front pastedown, and the edges show very slight browning, but a near fine copy in just about very good, rubbed and edgeworn dust jacket with faded spine panel, tear down rear flap, and worn area on rear panel.
