About this Item

VG, 1865, Private Press. In decorative contemporary red cloth, gilt title, beveled edges, corners and edges a little bumped and worn, some small marks to front and rear. Spine, faded, edges bumped and worn, gilt title & tooling. Internally, dark green end papers, no inscriptions, t.e.g., [6], [1], 2-302 pp, [6] notes, tp code indicates that the printers were, Sir Ivor Brertie Guest, Lady Charlotte Schreiber (formerly Guest), Miss Enid Guest, Miss Constance Guest and Miss Blanche Guest. A narrative of 12th century India. With a note stating that it was bought from Canford House who also printed for some famous authors, including Tennyson, but the printings were in small numbers and always rare! The Press operated from 1861-1876 and the Golden Dragon was its first substantial offering. COPAC show copies at Oxford, BL & V&A, however cannot find a copy sold at auction since 1976! Very rare.
