About this Item

Light edge and corner wear along with typical aging, some mild surface wrinkling on front and a small scuff on rear. Square and securely bound. This book is a collection of inspirational Christian stories. Of particular interest is one titled "Narco the Negro" which tells the story of a former slave whose conversion to Christianity influences many other. The story seems patronizing today but was probably rather bold at the time. (The book is undated, but, based on some internal evidence, it seems to be late 19th century, possibly early 20th.) Some other stories deal with Africans, Maori, Eskimos and Native Americans. The book was aimed at a Christian audience, but now presents a picture late 19th century attitudes toward race. I cannot find another copy of this work on WorldCat or online. ; 12mo 7" - 7½" tall; Unpaginated pages. Bookseller Inventory # 14775
