The philosophy and teachings of Pythagoras were expounded in his "Golden Verses" which gives the ways and behavior of a true Pythagorean. The first 100 pages or so of this book give the known history of Pythagoras. The Golden Verses are then given in there original Greek and translated into English. The bulk of the book consists of commentaries by Hierocles on the meaning of the verses. A chapter is included on the life of Hierocles (or perhaps "search for" is a better description). Regardless, the commentaries have always been seen as a wonderful addition to the understanding of the philosophy of Pythagoras. Bookseller Inventory # 1914
