About this title

COMPARATIVE - Four Gospels of Jesus Christ is a New Kind of Book called a Gospel COMPARATIVE. Using the complete text of the King James Version, the Gospel COMPARATIVE enables you to read all four of the canonical gospels simultaneously. This is done within a clear, easy-to-read design that presents the gospels as one continuous story. At the same time it also provides a side-by-side, line-by-line comparative that works in conjunction with the storytelling process.

From the Author:

COMPARATIVE - Four Gospels of Jesus Christ is a simple yet highly functional book. Using the complete text of the King James Version, the COMPARATIVE enables you to read and compare all four of the canonical gospels simultaneously within a single narrative. In addition to a clear, easy-to-read design that tells the gospels as a story, it also offers a side-by-side, line-by-line comparative of all four versions that works in conjunction with the story telling process.

What makes this book different begins with the stripped-down approach. Many well done books called Harmonies or Parallels often incorporate continuous narratives by the authors detailing their perspective research regarding corresponding passages. In addition, many of them only include the synoptic gospels. Contrary to these works, the COMPARATIVE does not have a single word added or taken away from the original content. The text is simply laid out in a way that follows the timeline progressively. So there's no theological objective regarding this work. It's purpose is to simply do the work for the reader.

Another related difference is that unlike a diatessaron, it's not edited into a single narrative. Instead all four version are allowed to live side-by-side, verse-by-verse, duplicating in each version where they will and standing alone where they don't. More than any one thing this book helps the reader to see what story content exists for each individual version, then how that version compares to the other versions.  Subsequently, I think  one of the most compelling and insightful parts of this book is the blank space.

My career has been in film & television and although I write, I don't call myself the author of this project, instead referring to myself as designer/producer. Strangely enough (or maybe not) being in a different field is what lead me to the book and helps explain the out-of-the-box perspective taken for the layout & design. Actually, it's setup like a movie; that's how so many of us think today and certainly how I think. The approach taken is similar to doing a script-breakdown when adapting a book to the screen. The text is broken-down into sections and each section is a compilation of scenes that makeup the story. The content is laid out like storyboard only with text instead of pictures, therefore each two-page spread is viewed  and read as a whole. We all visualize, so having the most widely told story in human history laid out this way, I believe helps everyone to get so much more out of it.

Generally speaking, all of us already know the story; we know how it begins and we know how it ends. A mantra I keep repeating to all perspective readers is when you begin, read the Preface - read the Introduction. These two items provide detailed explanations about the layout and functionality of the book. So, read the Preface - read the Introduction.

Lastly, my hope is that every individual reader using this book finds it as illuminating and enjoyable as I found developing it. Thank you for your consideration.
