For courses in Texas Politics

Examine Texas politics in historical, economic, and demographic contexts
Government and Politics in the Lone Star State guides students through the historical, economic, demographic, and political environment that has made Texas government and political culture what it is. Drawing on their experiences in political science, journalism, and consulting, Tucker Gibson, Clay Robison, and new coauthor Joanne Connor Green explain Texas’s governmental institutions, the players who influence them, and how these factors compare to those in other states. The 2014 Elections and Updates Edition has been revised to meet the outcomes instituted by the Texas education commission board, and includes updated content on the major issues in today’s headlines to help students become informed voters and participants in Texas’s dynamic policymaking process.

Also available with MyPoliSciLab®
MyPoliSciLab for the Texas Government course extends learning online, engaging students and improving results. Media resources with assignments bring concepts to life, and offer students opportunities to practice applying what they’ve learned. And the Writing Space helps educators develop and assess concept mastery and critical thinking through writing, quickly and easily. Please note: this version of MyPoliSciLab does not include an eText.

Government and Politics in the Lone Star State, 2014 Elections and Updates Edition is also available via REVEL™, an immersive learning experience designed for the way today's students read, think, and learn.

About the Author:

Tucker Gibson taught for forty-three years at Trinity University, focusing on state and local government, political parties and interest groups, public policy, and religion and politics. He has assisted governments in Central Texas in redistricting, owned a market research firm, and consulted with political candidates and businesses. In addition to multiple editions of this book, he has coauthored the Texas chapters in numerous national and Texas government textbooks published by Pearson.

Clay Robison covered state government and politics in Texas for almost forty years as a journalist, including twenty-six years as Austin Bureau Chief for the Houston Chronicle, before retiring in 2009. He now is a public affairs and communications specialist for the Texas State Teachers Association, based in Austin. He is coauthor of Politics in America: Texas Edition.

Joanne Connor Green is Professor and Chair of Political Science at Texas Christian University. Green studies the role of gender in American politics. She and her colleagues are examining how the presence of women and non-Caucasian representatives in state legislatures affect public policies, specifically as they pertain to elders and children. Joanne Connor Green, who is also interested in promoting civic engagement, regularly speaks to community groups regarding campaigns and elections as well as gender in American politics.
