About this Item

The Governor's Lady is Mrs Philip Gidley King, Governor King's wife. As Ms Bassett explains in an Author's note the story is authentic throughout, quoting Ms King's letters and chatty journals full of charm and lintelligence as she chronicles her observations with dry wit and clever perceptions - an enjoyble picture of the colony's early years. But where her voice is absent the author has filled in the gaps from the historical records. 132pp Soft brds and sp As New. Publishing history: first by Oxford 1940, with a second edition in 1956. It was then reissued in 1961 by MUP in a soft cover and then reprinted as this one 1992 with pics of the family and others and of Sydney at that time. As New Size: 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall.
