This 1842 Bible contains the family records of Russell Gray (born Nov. 25, 1812) and his wife Sarah B. (born June 21, 1816, died may 11, 1887). Their six children who were born between 1838 and 1855 were: Hannah C., Samuel L., Russell, Sarah Elizabeth, Mary S., and Ferdinand C. The childrens' marriages were: Hannah C. Gray married John Kerry Simmons on Jan. 23, 1862; Russell G. Gray married Laura Keene (no date given); Sarah E. Gray married Sewall B. Wing on Nov., 15, 1869; Mary S. Gray maried James L. Dexter on Oct. 6. 1884. Additional records are the marriages of Florence G. Dexter To John C. Dexter on Nov. 24, 1904; and Lilllian C. Dexter to Luen M. Johnson on Jan. 1, 1924. Additional births are: Luen M. Johnson on April 20, 1883, Lillian C. Dexter on April 25, 1893, Ruth W. Johnson on Oct. 8, 1926, and Luen M. Johnson Jr. on April 14, 1929. The Bible is bound in the original. full brown calf, with well attached covers having a little cracking to the hinges. The spine is in good condition with a good spine label. Book Description N. Bangs and J. Emory; Methodist Episcopal Church, New York, 1827. Full-Leather. Condition: Good. Early Printing. Bound in period, full brown leather. The rubbed covers are well attached with a little cracking. The spine label has some edge chipping. There are no frontpapers and the loose title page has been edge-trimmed and attached to the inner cover. 983 total pages which are tightly bound and have occasional small spotting and foxing. A number of pages have a water discoloration. This bible was published in New York for the Methodist Episcopal Church. This bible was in the possession of Andrew Gray (Aug. 15, 1799 - Jan. 15, 1883) and his wife Charlotte (nee Black) (July 19, 1797 - Sept. 21, 1885). Andrew Gray was the son of Reuben Gray (June 3, 1762 - Nov. 30, 1858) and of Sarah G. Gray (nee Herrick) (Sept. 6, 1766 - July, 10, 1846). Charlotte was the daughter of Samuel Black (Sept. 9, 1766 - Feb. 21, 1862) and Rebecca Black (April 2, 1767 - Nov. 17, 1863). These entries are in the bible's "Family Record" section and are written in faint ink with a thin pen. A descendant has written out the entries in a clear hand onto separate sheets. There are additional entries for the births of the next generation of Grays (between 1818 and 1834) - Lucena, Stephen Decatur, Betsy, Silvia B., Martin Van Buren, William Jarvis Gray. Additional births of Grays (between 1855 and 1860) are : Rollins Y., Frank Herbert, Clara Frances. Additional births of Grays (between 1861 and 1870) on an enclosed paper are: June M. White, Emilie C., Melville Ernest, Maurice A. Gray. There are very few entries for deaths and no entries for marriages. Size: 4to - over 9¾" - 12" tall. Seller Inventory # 11343
