About this Item

8.25" x 5.5". 239pp. patterned paper covered boards with a dark gray cloth spine, in dust wrapper. Near fine condition; the jacket is a bit edge worn and rubbed. In 1959, G. Clifford Prout appeared on national television and came to the attention of millions of Americans as the founder of an organization whose objective was to clothe all animals from cats to camels for the sake of decency. many people accepted the ridiculous Society for Indecency to Naked Animals as a genuine movement, and among them were large numbers of crusading zealots who, alarmed by the claims about America's declining morality, expressed their support for SINA's cause. The hoax began as a satire of media censorship but took on a life of its own with sympathizers offering unsolicited contributions (always returned), citizen summonses for walking naked dogs, and sewing patterns for pet clothes. This book describes how Abel pulled off one of the most infamous and longest-running pranks of the century. Bookseller Inventory # 17620
