About this title

About the Author:

Gayle Bunney grew up in Alberta, where she rode horses over Canada's vast expanse of prairie. It's a place where you can ride from sunup to sundown while you share your day with the horse beneath you, the prairie wildlife, and the contented herds of cattle grazing the land. She also spent many years riding mountain trails, living and riding anywhere from timber to bush country, where she discovered a whole new offering of Mother Nature's supreme beauty. And the horse was always a part of her very existence.

When she was six years old, Dorothy Pedersen obtained a copy of Charlotte's Web from the Clydebank Public Library, in Clydebank, Scotland. By the time she was finished the book she knew she wanted to be a writer. She came to Canada in 1964 where, alas, school teachers discouraged her from pursuing writing as a career. After an assortment of jobs she trained in equine studies and horsemanship, worked for the horse industry for a period of time, and continues to this day to write about it. Dorothy enjoys designing and creating handknits and crocheted garments, and is an animal rights supporter, and boxing fan.

Debbie Gamble-Arsenault has been horse mad since she was a toddler; family rumour has it that "horse" was practically the first word she spoke. Raised in a close-knit, loving family, long on children, but short on horses, she fed her passion for equines by collecting model horse figurines (a collection that now numbers over 800), reading horse stories, and begging rides on neighbourhood farm horses.

It seemed only natural that horses would be the first topic she wrote about when she began her writing career over 25 years ago. Since then, she has been published in numerous periodicals and newspapers across North America on a wide range of topics. This is her first book. Debbie lives in Alexandra, a rural community on the outskirts of Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island, with her husband, Tim Arsenault, and two furry cat-children. Her hobbies include reading prodigiously, model horse collecting and showing, motorcycle touring and attending rallies, and having "tea and chat" with her friends. The author is active in her church and Women's Institute, as well as other community-service organizations. She is a charter member of the Island Writer's Association and has been a member of the Periodical Writer's Association of Canada for more than 15 years.
