This volume was sold only by subscription and is the scarce 1st edition. Handsomely illustrated with engravings and maps. 528 pages. Volume itself is protected in a clear Brodart cover. The front cover is the original brown cloth front cover with pictoral scenes of the great west in black and gilt that are very sharp and show little wear. The spine has been professionally repaired and shows minimal loss/chipping of decorative cloth overlay at the base and at top (of the overlay, not the spine itself) with the title The Great West being sharp. The book is tight. Minimal age toning on the pages. No apparent chipping on the edges but shows a touch of wear. No apparent foxing. Not ex-libras. No bookplates. Approximately 10" x 7".
