A well known poet and writer, Greenwood worked for Godey's Lady's Book and was a noted advocate for women's rights, as well as an abolitionist. This volume collects essays on various subjects, including the Irish Patriots of '48, the poetry of Whittier, Effie Mather, etc. Also collected are a series of her letters, recalling her thoughts while traveling to different cities. FAIR condition. Heavy chipping and splitting to the cloth along the hinges of the spine, with some loss to the head and foot. Small horizontal tear in the cloth across the lower center backstrip. Mostly minor scuffing to the covers, with heavy scuffing along the extremities. Minor soiling. Uneven fading. Frontispiece appears to have been detached and has been fastened with a small pin to the first endpaper. Heavy curling along the frontis gutter edge. Binding cracked at the title page.
