About the Book

We're sorry; this specific copy is no longer available. Here are our closest matches for Gremlins on the Job by Varga, Judy.

Description:

Quarto. 12 ff. First edition. Illustrated in color. Like Roald Dahl's book, which bears a similar title, Varga's text is based on an R.A.F. legend of capricious sprites whose raison d'être is to sabotage aircraft. Both books were published in the same year, and it is not known which actually appeared first, though inscribed copies of Dahl's book suggest it was published toward the end of 1943. This book, however, did not benefit from having Disney as a collaborator, as Dahl's did; nevertheless, its colorful depictions of these aeronautic mischief-makers have a folk-art quality that, in some respects, fits better with the subject matter. Original color pictorial wrappers show some light toning, name stamp at top of cover and title page, corners very lightly creased, else a fine copy of an ephemeral item. Bookseller Inventory #

Book Description The London Printing and Lithographing Company, London, 1943. Card. Condition: Good. Dust Jacket Condition: No. First Edition. "Story entirely based on R.A.F. legend".of the gremlins that persecuted pilots during the second World War. Three pages of text followed by 20 pages of coloured illustrations. Coloured title page dedicates the book to Sgt. Pilot Bernt Barge, to the 34 S.F.T.S. of the R.A.F.,and to all those pilots who know. The book is bound by staples inside a heavy cardboard cover with the front cover showing an illustration of gremlins on the tail of an aircraft - with the title and author - all in colour. The text is tight except that the binding has detached from the staples. There are no marks or writing except a slight water damage across the lower outside corner inside the back cover. The front cover has a small 1/2 inch missing from the bottom outside corner. The book is on stiff cream-colour paper so that it is difficult to judge if there is age darkening. The cover has minor hardly noticeable creasing and has some rubbing at the edges. This is a rare and extraordinary book, giving a reminder of the courage and humour of the World War Two flyers. Book Description The London Printing & Lithographing Company Limited, London & Canada, 1943. Soft cover. Condition: Good. No Jacket. Judy Varga (illustrator). 1st Edition. A first edition of one of the earliest books on the RAF phenomenon known as Gremlins. Well illustrated with colour plates showing the different types of these mythical creatures and the ensuing havoc they can cause. Thought to be the influence behind Roald Dahl's book on the same subject this copy is generally in Very Good condition but has lost the top right hand corner of the front wrap which is also a little soiled. Title page inscribed to a previous owner. The staples have rusted and caused the wraps to become detached. The book has been stitched to compensate for this problem. Seller Inventory # 000165
