About this Item

Pp. 1-70, frontispiece photogravure of Grimaldi cave; pp. 215-324, 22 photogravure plates, 169 text-figures. Original printed parchment paper-covers, lettered in black on the front cover, folio (14 1/4 x 11 inches). Grimaldi cave is located on the Mediterranean coast of Italy; in the early part of the 20th century, two Paleolithic skeletons were found which today are classified as early modern humans. The two parts offered present the history and description of the site and the extensive archaeological remains found. The two missing parts cover the geology and paleontology of the cave including the description of the human skeletons. No ownership marks. The wrappers of the part 4 (on archaeology) has two front corners missing but the text description is intact, there is foxing to the front wrapper of part 1, many pages are uncut and un-opened; overall a very good copy.
