About this Item

8Ó x 10Ó. This set of promotional photo stills for the Ernst Lubitsch Production, Heaven Can Wait shows the principal actors in various formal and casual scenes. Fine condition. The film was written by Samson Raphaelson based on the play Birthday by Leslie Bush-Fekete, directed by Ernst Lubitsch, and starred Gene Tierney, Don Ameche, Charles Coburn, Marjorie Main, Laird Cregar, Spring Byington, Allyn Joslyn, Eugene Pallette, Signe Hasso, and Louis Calhern. The film tells the story of a man (Don Ameche) who, upon his death, finds himself at the entry to Hell, where he recounts his life story in the belief that Hell is where he belongs. It received several Oscar nominations, including Best Picture, Best Director, and Best Cinematography - Color. This film should not be confused with 1978 film starring Warren Beatty, of the same title which is a remake of an entirely different film, the 1941 Here Comes Mr. Jordan which was based on a (1938) stage play originally titled Heaven Can Wait.
