About the Author: At age 13 Nick Pocock became an "aeroplane spotter". Armed with a notebook and box-camera, he cycled along narrow English lanes to the many local aerodromes. At age 17 he learned to fly in Tiger Moth biplanes through the Air Training Corps, and later joined the Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve as a cadet pilot. Since then his flying has included several years of competition and exhibition aerobatics and instruction. He was the sole representative of the United Kingdom in the second World Aerobatic Championships, Budapest, Hungary in 1962. He then flew three seasons cropspraying in Texas, Nicaragua, and Mississippi. Later he flew part-time: gliding, aerial photography, seaplanes, and skywriting. Pocock has written numerous magazine articles about aircraft and aviators. He spent six years researching the Ag-Cat story. Pocock teaches at Texas State Technical College and is a member of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers, Antique Airplane Association, Experimental Aircraft Association, and OX5 Aviation Pioneers.
