probably the first and only edition and printing (not indicated); from the library of the anthropologist, William H. Gilbert with Gilbert's inscription on the front cover "W. H. Gilbert. Albany, NY"(he lived in Albany from Sept. 1938 to Sept. 1939 and must have purchased the book during that time; although no date of publication is printed, he wrote "1931" on the front cover, based on the Imperial Bank of Persia advertisement citing its balance sheet from March 20, 1931), binding beginning to loosen (although still intact), spine is sunned, paper on heel of binding chipped, crown is chipped and torn ca 8.75 cm, else clean and apparently little used, rated Fair to Good; would interest collectors of books (and maps) on Iran; soft covers are red stiff card wrappers with black lettering on the front; the fold-out maps are of a quality that they could be separated from the book and framed; they include: 1) Map of Persia 1 to 5,000,000 ca 13 x 13 3/4 inches, several tears at creases which could be repaired); 2) a listing of access routes to Persia by sea and land, and by air (!) ca 16 x 6 3/4 inches; 3) map of Access Routes to Persia ca 11 3/4 x 8 1/2 1 to 13,550,000; 4) Disposition of the principal streets of Tehran (unfolded, approximately 9 3/4 x 8 1/2 inches); 12mo - 6 3/4 inches tall, xvii + 293 numbered pages (+19 b&w plates and 4 folding maps) Size: 12mo - over 6¾" - 7¾" tall. Books for sale range from linguistics, pidgin & creole languages, sociolinguistics, anthropology, education, and comparative religion through modern first editions and German and Scandinavian books. A number of the books are valuable and hard to find, as for example a 1/2-leather-bound first edition of Alfred Russell Wallace's The Malay Archipelago (2 vols.), recently sold for presentation to the Mayor of London on his visit to Malaysia, and a first edition of H. G. Wells' The Time Machine, a novel of the 19th century pointing to a scary future, a continuing revelation to me. Triple G Books stands back of its books in every way.
