Small softcover booklet in VG condition. 1958 reprint of 1875 edition distributed free of charge by the Kansas Pacific Railway Co. Turquoise paper wrappers are clean and undamaged except for a very small ding along the top edge near the spine. No holes or tears. Staple binding is tight. Interior pages are clean, undamaged and unmarked. Fold-out map once attached to the interior back panel is now loose and has been attached to the booklet with clear cellophane tape. Facsimile of the rare first edition, laid into publisherâs tan pictorial paper portfolio, printed with explanatory text. Limited to 750 numbered copies of which this is number 311. Contains much information regarding the cattle trade and the Kansas rail-head markets or shipping points. Pages 13-21 provide a detailed description of the trail. Facsimile of the scarce 1874 first edition (published by the Kansas Pacific Railway Co.). Introduction by Herbert O. Brayer, who writes: âAlthough tens of thousands of copies were published and distributed by the railroad and its agents, only a relative few survived. They are highly prized by depositories and collectors of Americana.â The map details the rail lines from Kansas City to Denver and surrounding areas, and the âbest and shortest cattle trails from Texasâ as well as âChisumâs Trailâ from Ft.
