About this Item

8vo., pp. 34; peach colored wrappers printed in black; some discoloration at top margin of front wrapper; inkstamp of "E. P. Gaston General Secretary" also at front; else clean and sound; very good. Presumed first edition of this guidebook produced by the YMCA in Mexico City. Illustrated with scenes from photographs. Contains information on hotels, railways, streetcars, useful Spanish words and phrases, and more for the earnest sight-seer. Several ads for W. G. Walz Co. of Mexico City (at Avenida Oriente), purveyors of "Mexican and Indian Curiosities" and rare books. Walz issued descriptive catalogs of books gathered from "libraries of extinct Convents and Monesteries in Mexico and from other sources." The Mexico City YMCA promoted itself as a gathering spot for English-speaking tourists. Apparently scarce: WorldCat records three locations only (at Yale, Vanderbilt and Texas).
