About this Item

From text author would seem to be the wife of Joseph Emery of Lynn, Massachusetts but this is not completely certain. Author mentions that they were married in 1891. Diary begins at beginning of their trip but this volume only covers the first part of the trip - the other volume(s) are missing. In this volume the couple leaves Massachusetts, travels to Azores and throughout Italy. Much description; easy to read. About 24 lines per pages, several pages are blank. Diary is 6x4 inches, thin cardboard cover with black cloth spine (spine worn and torn ),164p. Sample entry is a description of the Azores, April 28: "Most beautiful mountainous islands of the sea! .The land is divided into plots divided by hedges until the whole country looks like a checkerboard. Here and there are scattered villages throughout the islands. Buildings are all painted white which adds to the picturesqueness of the islands.could see enormous windmills on islands revolving. Little sail-boats in bay, masts of vessels in the distance. (etc)" Good, cover worn. Binding secure. Bookseller Inventory # a88226
