First printing (not stated) INSCRIBED AND SIGNED BY THE AUTHOR. xiv, 194 pages. Hardcover: H 29.75cm x L 23.25cm. Dust jacket rubbed, shallow chipping at spine head with heel nicked, jagged tear with some paper loss at lower right corner of front panel, two closed tears at edges of mildly soiled rear panel with small chip at top edge; dj now presented in a mylar Brodart protector. Cream colored cloth with bold green stamped lettering upon spine. Dark olive green endpapers. B/w photographs; maps; appendix provides a List of Buildings, Home Owners, and Addresses; Index. A near fine copy in a good+ dust jacket with the author's three-line inscription upon the front free endpaper: "to Mr. and Mrs. Birney Imes | with best wishes, | Mary Wallace Crocker." Birney Imes (1914-2003) was publisher of the Columbus, Mississippi Commercial Dispatch and chairman of Imes Communications as well as father to current newspaper publisher and noted photographer Birney Imes III. Professor Mary Crocker reviews the historic architecture of Mississippi with a particular focus upon Greek Revival structures (predominately residential designs but churches and government buildings too) and some commentary on ironwork as well. Features chapters on the following towns and counties: Natchez and vicinity, Washington, Wilkinson County, Port Gibson and Claiborne County, Vicksburg, Jackson, Canton, Sandy Hook, Biloxi, Ocean Springs, Gautier, Pascagoula, Macon, Columbus, Aberdeen, Pontotoc, Oxford, Holly Springs, Horn Lake, Carrollton, and Washington County.
