The Ninth (Scottish) Division was the first of the new formations organised by Lord Kitchener in 1914 and it was one of the earliest to go to France in 1915. From then until the end of the Great War, the 9th played a vital part in almost every important action and phase of the conflict _The Battle of Loos, The Ypres Salient, The Somme, Arras, Passchendaele, Flanders &c. Later in the War the feisty Scottish troops were joined and strengthened by South African soldiers and the combination was a force to be reckoned with. This history of the 9th in the Great War was compiled from Battalion, Brigade and Divisional diaries and supplemented by the personal narratives of officers. It is generously illustrated with a total of twenty coloured and guarded plates, four photograph plates and eleven folding maps at the rear. Bookseller Inventory # C141B289
